Bernard Lamont \\\'Barney\\\' Brace

Bernard “Barney” Lamont Brace, a longtime resident of the Fern Prairie area of Camas, died Jan. 6, 1992, in Vancouver.  He was 83.

Brace was born Aug. 10, 1908, in The Dalles and Ryderwood, Wash., before moving to Camas in 1947.  He worked as a “cat” driver in the Crown Zellerbach Corp. wood mill for 25 years before retiring in 1972.  Brace was also a member of the Fern Prairie Grange, the Camas Moose Lodge and AARP.  In addition, Brace played the saxophone, clarinet and trombone for a number of local bands.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gloryann Brace of Clatskanie, Ore.; grandchildren, Keith, Brian and Cheryl Brace of Clatskanie, Ore.; brothers, Lawrence and Russell Brace of Portland; sister, Thelma hart of Woodburn, Ore.; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Straub’s Funeral Home in Camas.  Burial was at Fern Prairie Cemetery.
