Obituary

Cecil Charles Hopkins died June 21, 1999.  He was 79.

Born Nov. 3, 1919, in Tilden, Neb., to Robert and Edna Hopkins, he moved to Washougal in 1929 and attended Washougal schools.  He enlisted in the Army after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and while serving in the military received a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for being wounded twice.  He married Winona Fox in February of 1944 in Washougal and worked at the Crown Zellerbach paper mill for 31 years before retiring.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Winona; daughters, Ethel Burns and Nancy Bradford, both of Washougal; sons, Cecil Jr. of Washougal and Boyd and Randall, both of Skamania, Wash.;  brother, Kenneth of BZ Corners, Wash.; sisters, Dorothy Chapman and Margaret Bryant, both of Washougal; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and four grandsons.

A funeral service was held June 25 at Straub’s Funeral Home with burial following at Fern Prairie Cemetery.
